Cheryl DiNardo works as a nurse in an intensive care unit specializing in the treatment of premature infants. She has been working in the unit at Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, for 12 years. Cheryl enjoys the challenges of the job and is confident in her ability to handle difficult cases. In this video she describes a typical work day and talks about her relationship with patients, the meaning of excellence, and avoiding burnout. Above all she emphasizes the changing role of nurses in hospitals, towards more autonomy and responsibilities.

The video was created to capture a traditional job coupled with new technology, a strong theme of intrinsic motivation, and a shift in work responsibilities. It can be used in discussions of motivation, high performance, job analysis and design, and stress management.
