Migrant Workers

Date:
2002
Location:
Union, Maine
Running time:
11 minutes
Subjects:
Migrant agricultural laborers --United States
Foreign workers, Latin American

This video is designed around the portraits of four seasonal migrant workers who have come to Maine to pick up blueberries: Rangel, from El Salvador; Henri, from Haiti; Erica, from Mexico; and Roy, from the Virgin Island. Working bent down during most of the day, the migrants are paid three dollars per box of blueberries. In the interview, they talk about their work, the pay, their hopes for their families at home, and the uncertain future.

The video could be used in discussions of motivation, marginal workers, and ethical responsibilities to workers.
